Xavier Restrepo Commits to Tennessee Titans, Reuniting with QB Cam Ward
The Tennessee Titans have signed wide receiver Xavier Restrepo as an undrafted free agent, reuniting him with his former University of Miami quarterback and the Titans’ 2025 No. 1 overall pick, Cam Ward. This move not only bolsters the Titans’ receiving corps but also rekindles a dynamic partnership that thrived in college football.
A Record-Breaking Collegiate Career
Restrepo concluded his tenure at Miami as the school’s all-time leader in receptions (200), receiving yards (2,844), and receiving touchdowns (21). In the 2024 season alone, he amassed 69 catches for 1,127 yards and 11 touchdowns, earning consensus All-American honors. Despite these impressive statistics, Restrepo went undrafted, likely due to a slower-than-expected 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine.
Cam Ward’s Advocacy
Cam Ward, who was selected first overall by the Titans, played a pivotal role in bringing Restrepo to Tennessee. Ward actively campaigned for his former teammate throughout the draft process, highlighting Restrepo’s work ethic and on-field performance. “He’s one of the most underrated players in the draft,” Ward stated. “He was one of the best route runners in college football last year, first-team All-Conference, All-American, never lost in man coverage. He’s a back-to-back 1,000-yard receiver, so why wouldn’t you push for him?”
Titans’ Perspective
Titans head coach Brian Callahan acknowledged that the team’s extensive evaluation of Ward provided additional exposure to Restrepo’s capabilities. “We watched a lot of tape on Cam, and you see all the plays that Xavier made over his career, particularly this past year,” Callahan noted. “He might not necessarily be the biggest or the fastest player that’s probably ever come out of Miami, but he’s been incredibly productive and has found ways to play football the right way.”
Looking Ahead
Restrepo has already begun participating in the Titans’ offseason program, taking part in rookie minicamp and working alongside veterans. Early reports indicate that he’s showcasing his explosiveness and precise route-running skills, even fielding punts during drills. While he enters the NFL as an undrafted free agent, his established chemistry with Ward and proven track record suggest he could become a valuable asset in the Titans’ offensive scheme.
As the Titans aim to rebound from a challenging 2024 season, the reunion of Ward and Restrepo offers a promising narrative for the team’s future. Their collegiate success could translate into a formidable connection on the professional stage, providing Tennessee with a dynamic duo to watch in the upcoming season.
