Arsenal will be hoping to continue their perfect start to the 2024/25 Premier League season as they prepare to travel up to the Midlands to get revenge against former manager Unai Emery and his Aston Villa side this afternoon.
The Gunners lost both matches against the Villains last season, including the 2-0 loss at the Emirates Stadium that derailed their title hopes thanks to goals from Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins. They were also beaten 1-0 in this very fixture early on in the campaign after an early John McGinn goal proved the difference.
Now following their 2-0 win over Wolves in the season opener last week, manager Mikel Arteta highlighted the difficulty of going to the ground in recent seasons, saying: “Yeah, [it’s] one of the toughest places to go for sure and we know that. We’ve prepared really well to understand what we have to do and we’ll go there to try to win the game.
They scored [last season] and we didn’t. Very simple. We had an enormous amount of chances to do that. That was one of the big differences, we have analysed other stuff, but that’s what we’ll have to do better tomorrow because they’re a really good side. Really well coached.
I didn’t enjoy [being in the stands last season] one bit. The moment I love the most during the week, you are building everything to get to that moment on the grass next to the players. The competition is in your veins and to be there [the stands] was frustrating.”
With all that being said as we head towards kick-off, here’s how you can tune in…
When is Aston Villa vs Arsenal?
The game is set to kick-off at 5:30pm at Villa Park on Saturday, August 24. The Gunners will play after their title rivals Man City who face newly-promoted Ipswich Town, meaning they’ll have to at least match that result to keep up with Pep Guardiola’s side – who have won 17 of their last 18 matches against promoted teams in a run that stretches back to April 2021.
