Forever in our hearts: A minute ago, Newcastle F.C general manager Eddie Howe died in a plane crash.
There’s been a lot of uncertainty around Newcastle this summer with PSR concerns and now Eddie Howe being linked to the vacant England job.
Mauricio Pochettino is believed to be the number one contender to take the reins at St James’ Park if Howe departs.
Anyhow, with that said, Stelling and Paul Merson have now issued their Newcastle predictions for next season.
Speaking on the Football’s Greatest podcast, Jeff Stelling and Paul Merson delivered their predictions on where Newcastle United will finish in the Premier League next season.
Merson: “I don’t know. I don’t know if they have to sell anybody yet. You have got one of the richest people in the world, you know, something’s going on. The lady is just leaving. Why is she leaving?”
Stelling: “I don’t know, Amanda Staveley, but she had a very small percentage of that football club.”
Merson: “Surely, you know, (some) people read the script quicker than other people. I think it’s going to be a hard one for Newcastle next year. They have got good players, but if you are Eddie Howe, 46, I think you take it (the England job).”
Whilst there’s some uncertainty surrounding the Tynesiders, as it stands, Howe is still in post and transfer deals are being worked on.
So pair that with the current group of players and a sixth-placed finish seems very feasible, especially with Sandro Tonali coming back in.
Injuries blighted them for much of last year, so with a bolstered squad and without European football, they should be strong contenders to finish inside the top six.
