Ally McCoist has placed doubt on Brendan Rodgers’ long-term future with Celtic.

The Hoops manager, who had just won the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup, returned to the club last year to replace Ange Postecoglou, who had moved to Tottenham for a second spell in charge at Parkhead. His initial departure, in mid-season to take over as manager of Leicester City, sparked outrage among Celtic supporters.

His return to the club last summer was met with mixed emotions, with many fans unwilling to forgive the 51-year-old for the way he left the first time around. He’s begun to mend those ties with a great season on the pitch and another Champions League experience in Glasgow’s east end next season. However, Rangers hero McCoist would not be surprised if Rodgers departed to return to English football in the future, according to a message from a listener who believes the Irishman is waiting for an opportunity and biding his time at the Scottish champions.

McCoist told talkSPORT: “A part of me believes Brendan will want to go on again. I truly believe that. Of course, he has had a very good season, winning the league and cup double. It goes without saying. And his CV is back up there.
