DARING MESSAGE: After holding off for a while, Mark Pope has finally sent a message to BYU.
Ten days after agreeing to take over as Kentucky’s next head basketball coach, Pope expressed his gratitude on social media on Sunday morning for his time at BYU.

Pope stated on X that “BYU will always be an incredibly special place to our family.” “A mentor of mine told me shortly after we arrived at BYU that ‘BYU had more to offer me than I had to offer BYU.'”

These statements turned out to be really accurate since we believed that attending BYU improved our lives. Thinking back on all of the enduring friendships we made at BYU is overwhelming. We are incredibly appreciative.

Pope led BYU’s program for five years, going 110-52 overall and making two unsuccessful NCAA Tournament visits. Blue chip talent and former Cougars commit Collin Chandler was traded to join him in Lexington before he was replaced in Provo by Phoenix Suns associate head coach Kevin Young.

Pope, a captain of the Wildcats team that won the 1996 national title, was formally introduced last Sunday in front of a boisterous Rupp Arena crowd at his alma institution.

Some BYU supporters expressed disapproval of the pomp and circumstance surrounding Pope’s entrance, questioning whether he would ever say goodbye to Cougar Nation. These concerns can now be safely disregarded.

Pope expressed his joy in his tweet on Sunday, expressing gratitude to God for enabling him and his family to embark on “the greatest adventure of our lives” at Kentucky

It’s been an incredible ride – that’s exactly what Kentucky basketball is! It’s the best basketball there is,” Pope stated. “And Big Blue Nation has redefined southern hospitality to a whole new level! I’m grateful. We are fully engaged in the task. We’ll not give up. We are aware of the task! Together, we will accomplish this. We are so grateful that it overflows our hearts. We’re at home now.

“… I hold a belief.” God has much greater intentions for our life than we have, in my opinion.
