HOPELESS ERA: AFTER VILLA KEY PLAYERS’ INJURY UPDATE, EMERY WAS CONFUSED AND HOPELESS.
Following his limping off against Lille last week, Nicolo Zaniolo had another injury setback. Unai Emery, the manager of Aston Villa, has offered some explanation.
In our Europa Conference League quarterfinal matchup with Lille last Thursday, the 24-year-old was substituted out after 28 minutes due to what appeared to be a back injury following a forceful collision.
There were questions about how long the Italian international would now be out injured after missing our victory over Bournemouth this past weekend. Emery will surely want to have as near to a complete team as possible available to him for the latter part of the season.
Speaking following our 3-1 victory over the Cherries, the Villa manager revealed that Zaniolo’s injury sustained in France was the reason for his absence from the matchday squad. While he did not give a timeframe for his recovery, he did imply that it doesn’t seem to be a setback that will keep him out for too long.
“He’s got an injury, but we need to wait and see how long it will take,” he stated on Sunday at his news conference following the game. “Hopefully not too much.”
The Premier League matchup between Villa and Chelsea on Saturday night will mark the beginning of another hectic stretch as we aim to advance and keep getting closer to Champions League qualification.
Zaniolo has struggled to consistently display his best form this season, contributing just three goals in 38 appearances across all competitions. However, the Italian playmaker has started to show encouraging signs in his recent performances, and Emery has been eager to publicly praise him and highlight a shift in his mentality in recent months.
The Galatasaray loanee is also competing for his future because it’s unclear if he’ll sign a long-term contract to join us this summer. As a result, he’ll undoubtedly be eager to return to action as soon as possible as he tries to continue impressing Emery and contribute significantly to our season.
