SHOCKING NEWS : 2 immoral act has Prevent the Cincinnati Bengals from Extending their 3x Pro Bowler…….
Drafted players are not eligible for an extension until after the player completes their final regular season game of their third season, per Article 7 of the CBA.
“A Rookie Contract for a Drafted Rookie may not be renegotiated, amended or altered in any way until after the final regular season game of the player’s third contract year.”
The Cincinnati Bengals’ elite receiver has fulfilled the requirements to qualify for a contract extension.
Ja’Marr Chase meets the requirements under the CBA and is eligible for a contract extension. However, there are reports that the Bengals have not engaged in contract discussions.
Reason #1:
The first reason is that the Bengals are waiting for Justin Jefferson to get his deal done first. Executive Vice President Katie Blackburn hinted to reporters Tuesday that they are waiting on Jefferson.
“We haven’t started,” Blackburn said. “That’s sort of the next thing is just to piece together some of those things to consider and give it some thought. And like I said, I can’t say for sure where any of it will go. But we certainly are going to study up on it and see what we can figure out to try to get the best result we can for the club one way or another.”
Jefferson is in the last year of his rookie contract and is on his 5th-year option worth $19.743 million for 2024. Since Jefferson has one year left of his deal, it would be logical for Minnesota to give him an extension (if he is part of their future) now rather than have him test the open mark as an unrestricted free agent in 2025.
Reason #2:
The second reason is that Chase still has a 5th-year option worth $21.8 million for 2025 that the Bengals will likely exercise. Since he will likely have his 5th-year option exercised for 2025, the Bengals are in no rush to get a deal done. Waiting to extend Chase benefits the Bengals if the salary cap continues to go up every season.
