Iowa star Caitlin Clark went viral during the first round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday for a new reason: fans weren’t happy with how she seemed to be complaining to officials during the team’s win over Holy Cross.
At one point, the ABC-TV broadcast even showed Clark’s dad yelling at her to stop complaining.
So, when Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum complained to officials during Monday night’s game against the Atlanta Hawks, Bally Sports South play-by-play announcer Bob Rathbun drew a comparison between Clark and Tatum.
“Boy, Jayson Tatum does a lot of complaining. Who does he think he is, Caitlin Clark?” Rathbun said.
Basketball Hall of Famer and pundit Dominique Wilkins was momentarily rendered dumbfounded by the remark.
Laughing, Wilkins finally remarked, “Oh man, that’s good.”
Tatum’s protest came with just over two minutes remaining in the game, with the Celtics leading 114-111. Hawks overcame a deficit to win 120–118.
