HEARTBREAKING NEWS FOR MATT O ‘RILEY:he wont play again
Scotland’s top flight is now in cold storage for a couple of weeks in a period that will provide players at all 12 clubs the chance to recharge the batteries and rest up any niggling injuries they have while getting some extra work in behind the scenes on the training ground.
It’s been a busy first half of the season for O’Riley and his Celtic pals and they followed up their derby day success over Rangers with a thumping win over St Mirren to kick-off 2024 in the perfect fashion. The 23-year-old was on target once again to take his tally in the league to an impressive ten goals while he has also contributed seven assists. In total he has already featured in 28 club games across all competitions including the Champions League.
He told Celtic TV: “I want to take care of my body and mind. It’s a good chance to rest and I’m fortunate enough to go and get some sun and chill out a bit.
“I will train a little bit but not too much as we’ve played a lot of football and I need to rest the body. I will do my usual stuff like meditation and come back fresh. We know the demands of this football club, I’ve been here long enough now to know you can’t let your foot off the gas so that will be the message when we come back.”
Tuesday’s triumph in Paisley was O’Riley’s 100th appearance in the hoops as Celtic enter the winter break eight points clear of Rangers – having played two games more. They return to action on January 21 for a Scottish Cup clash with Highland League outfit Buckie Thistle before the league action resumes at home to Ross County on the 27th.
