TRADEGY: San Francisco 49ers coach is very angry and announces his resignation today After facing…

The San Francisco 49ers announced that defensive coordinator Steve Wilks has been fired

Some fans and former players are upset with the San Francisco 49ers’ decision to terminate Steve Wilks because they feel the defensive coordinator was singled out for blame after the team lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

After announcing on Tuesday that the 49ers planned to retain all of their coaches, head coach Kyle Shanahan announced Wilks’ dismissal during an unscheduled conference call on Wednesday.

Shanahan declared on Wednesday, “I relieved Steve Wilks of his duties this morning.”

We’re going to switch around at defensive coordinator in the end. A really difficult choice to make, given it actually says nothing about Steve’s character or abilities as a football coach. He’s just what we were hoping for in a man, really. He coaches football really well.

“However, considering our team’s direction and current status from a scheme and other aspects, as we’ve gone through the year to these last few days, I felt pretty strongly that this was the best decision for the organization.”

At least one former NFL player criticized the choice as well.

If none of you can see what’s happening with Steve Wilks! Get your eyes open! A Target is resting on his back! which I genuinely don’t comprehend! No player who has ever played for this man has ever had a negative word to say about him as a person, his methods, or his coaching! Tre Boston, a former NFL safety, remarked, “He just led his defense to the Super Bowl.”

“Steve Wilks’ defense allowed ONE TD in regulation with Patrick Mahomes as QB 1 for KC,” another fan commented in the meantime. And deep into SF territory, that touchdown was the result of a mishandled punt. Wilks is now jobless. On Sunday, he wasn’t the least of their issues.

Despite this, Shanahan maintained that “going a different direction” necessary
