SAD DEPARTURE: UNC basketball agree to deal with super star player, potentially bringing an end to the Armando Bacot era.
Now that the new year has begun, let’s take a look at a few sportsmen who might be successful for the North Carolina Tar Heels in 2024.
The most memorable moment of 2023 came from UNC’s field hockey team, who claimed a national title for the fifth time in six years. With first-year coach Erin Matson leading the Tar Heels—the youngest coach in NCAA history—who won four titles as a player, the team triumphed in 2023.
Here are 11 UNC standouts, representing six sports, who are sure to be the most talked about Tar Heels on campus in 2024.
UNC basketball player Armando Bacot
Even though Bacot, a fifth-year senior, is nearing the end of his career, he will go from Chapel Hill as one of the greatest Tar Heels of all time. Bacot stated earlier in the season that while he places a “asterisk” next to some of his statistical accomplishments, he is most happy of leading UNC in rebounds. In terms of team accomplishments, Bacot is having the best Tar Heel season since UNC’s 2022 Final Four campaign.
RJ Davis, basketball for UNC
Despite being underappreciated due to his stature, Davis has developed into one of the country’s most reliable guards and is a strong candidate to be named an All-American before the end of his senior year. With the Tar Heels, Davis’s scoring average has increased each season. Similar to Bacot, Davis would be thrilled to win an ACC championship and go on to win the national championship as his career finale.
