The Dallas Mavericks intended to re-sign Kyrie Irving when they acquired him in a trade in the middle of the previous campaign. If they believed they couldn’t re-sign Irving, there was no sense in trading for him, and they were able to finalize a deal on the first night of free agency in the previous summer.

Irving received a three-year, $126 million contract from Dallas, which is fair for one of the NBA’s best point guards. For Luka Doncic’s co-star, forty million dollars a year is a fantastic sum of money; Irving now needs to maintain his health. Irving has struggled with health throughout his career, and this season started out poorly for him.

Irving will have the Mavs in terrific shape if he can play more than 70 games in the upcoming seasons. When Irving and Doncic are both healthy, Dallas is a whole other club, and this team is far less potent without Irving. Doncic is the only player on the team that has the incredible capacity to seize control of the game at any given time.
