Derrick Henry appeared to be planning to spend some time away from the Tennessee Titans, but there was still a chance he might come back.

Clearly, the Titans had other ideas.

Reports surfaced less than an hour into the alleged NFL legal tampering period, indicating that the Titans had reached an agreement with Tony Pollard, a former running back for the Dallas Cowboys. That should, practically speaking, rule out any chance of Henry coming back.

According to NFL Media, the contract is for $24 million over three years. A contract cannot be considered finalized until Wednesday.

The Titans’ offensive strategy has changed. Henry was a traditional between-the-tackle runner, and he was the best at it. However, he was seldom involved in the passing game either. With 55 catches the previous season, Pollard is a better asset than Henry in that area. Tyjae Spears, who will now play as a backup in the offense, looked excellent for the Titans in his limited stint as a rookie, so the signing was a little surprising.

The Cowboys are now in search of a new running back as a result of adding Pollard. Last season, Pollard had the opportunity to be a featured back

The Titans went out and got themselves a new running back. And the Henry era seems to be officially over in Tennessee.
