This offseason, the Cincinnati Bengals will have a large amount of salary cap room at their disposal. That does not, however, imply that people should not exercise caution while making deals.
On the other hand, Cincinnati’s front management will likely aim to maximize the money and find excellent deals wherever they can, given that wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is expected to sign a contract soon and quarterback Joe Burrow has already committed to a hefty one.
In light of that, the Bengals can target these three reasonably priced free agents this offseason.
Penny, Rashaad, Running Back
The Bengals may decide to cut Joe Mixon in the next few days in order to save money, thus his future with the team is still unclear. The Bengals may use some more depth at running back, and Penny might be a cheap option if Mixon is waived or even if he returns.
As a member of the Philadelphia Eagles last season, Penny saw relatively little action out of a deep backfield, but in his first five seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, he was fairly productive. With 6.3 yards per rush in 2021, he even led the league in yards per attempt.
At this stage of his career, he’s probably not a feature back, but Penny would be a good fit in a time-share arrangement.
