Gerald Williams, a former Yankee, lost his fight with cancer and died at the age of 55.

The Yankees selected Williams in the fourteenth round of the 1987 MLB Draft. In September 1992, he made his major league debut in the Bronx. The outfielder spent his first of two spells with the Yankees, playing for the team for a total of five seasons, from 1992 to 1996.

Williams was traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in August, so he was not with the Bombers during their October run,

Williams was moved once more after the 1997 season; however, this time, the Atlanta Braves, the Yankees’ former World Series opponents, acquired him.

After playing for the Braves for two seasons, Williams met the Yankees in the 1999 World Series, which his old team won four games to none.

In 2001, Williams was back with the Yankees as a reserve outfielder and during that season, he was listed on their postseason roster. Williams eventually got to play in the World Series for the Yankees, but the Arizona Diamondbacks ultimately defeated his club.
