After spending the last two years alternating between the G-League and the Dallas Mavericks, former Carolina player Justin Jackson appears to be returning to the move. Following the All-Star break, Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted earlier yesterday that the Minnesota Timberwolves are adding some depth to their roster by signing Jackson to a 10-day contract.

For those who haven’t been following Jackson’s NBA career, he began his career with the Sacramento Kings and played for them for a considerable amount of time before joining the Dallas Mavericks. After that, we witnessed his trades to the Oklahoma City Thunder, Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, Phoenix Suns, and back to the Celtics before he was eventually traded to the Mavericks once more. Jackson was a player with the Texas Legends, a G-League affiliate of the Mavericks, before being moved to the Timberwolves. He was averaging 19.5 points, 3.7 assists, 5.7 rebounds, and 41.2% shooting from beyond the arc per game.

Considering that Jackson’s contract only lasts for two weeks, it’s unclear what the Timberwolves have planned for him. I’m not the greatest person to talk to about Minnesota, but I’m assuming they’re basically testing Jackson to see if he can give their offensive more firepower. Although he has demonstrated exceptional perimeter shooting in the G-League, he has struggled with two main areas: his defense and his inability to transition his impressive outside shooting to the NBA court. It will be intriguing to watch how the Timberwolves assess him and, more significantly, how things pan out once his 10-day contract expires.
