Jimmy Cordero, a pitcher with the New York Yankees, has been suspended for the entirety of the 2024 Major League Baseball season due to a policy violation.

MLB verified Cordero’s violation of the league’s combined policies regarding child abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence in a statement issued on Wednesday. “Commissioner Robert D. Manfred, Jr. announced today that following an investigation, New York Yankees pitcher has accepted a suspension for the remainder of the 2024 Championship, season and postseason for violating Major League Baseball’s joint domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse policy,” the statement continued.

While on the restricted list, Cordero will not be compensated and will not be deducted from the team’s 40-man roster. The MLB’s position is endorsed by the Yankees, who likewise completely support the punishment and have issued a statement of their own.

The franchise released a statement saying, “The Yankees are fully supportive of Major League Baseball’s investigative process and the disciplinary action applied to Jimmy Cordero.” “There is no excuse for domestic abuse, and we support MLB’s Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse Policy’s goals, guidelines, and implementation.”
