NEW YORK The Yankees and free agent DJ LeMahieu are on the one-yard line following months of deadlocked negotiations.
A person with knowledge of the negotiations said that the organization is close to reaching an agreement that would keep the valued All-Star infielder wearing pinstripes for $90 million spread over six years.
First reported by MLB Network’s Jon Morosi on Friday, the news of a close deal between the Yankees and LeMahieu was based on a source.
LeMahieu, 32, allegedly asked his agent to re-engage with teams that had previously showed interest after growing frustrated with the slow pace of negotiations with the Yankees this winter.
LeMahieu was scheduled to participate in virtual meetings this week with other teams; the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers were the main teams interested in him.
However, LeMahieu, the team’s MVP the previous two seasons, and the Yankees decided that a reunion was the best option.
