Deshaun Watson’s tenure as the starting quarterback of the Cleveland Browns may come to an end if quarterback Justin Fields is acquired by the team from the Chicago Bears, according to ESPN sports analytics writer Seth Walder.

Did Justin Fields unfollow the Bears on Instagram?

Walder understands that this may sound crazy, but he thinks the Browns should concentrate on improving their quarterback position and view Watson as a sunk cost.

Fields, who is still in his rookie contract and has the potential to excel in Cleveland’s offensive scheme under head coach Kevin Stefanski, is the player for whom he suggests sending a second- or third-round selection.

Although there are still accusations of sexual misbehavior regarding Watson, general manager Andrew Berry of the Browns has stood by the choice to acquire him in a contentious trade with the Houston Texans.

The Browns have the financial option to trade Watson this offseason, but given Watson’s costly deal, it seems doubtful that they would assign him to a backup role in favor of an unknown quarterback like Fields.

Some analysts predict that Fields’ failure to establish himself as an NFL starter for the long haul will force the Bears to select USC Trojans quarterback with their first overall choice.

Fields has also been connected to trade rumors involving other quarterback-needy clubs including the Pittsburgh Steelers and Atlanta Falcons, who might face off against the Browns.

Despite Watson’s minimal playing time with the Browns in previous seasons, neither Berry nor Stefanski have indicated that they are considering a move away from him.

If Watson can deliver more reliable starts in the upcoming season, Berry will probably be depending on new offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey to help Watson regain his Pro Bowl form from his tenure with the Houston Texans.
