LeBron James will certainly be thinking about his future during the Lakers’ busy summer, and other key players won’t likely be around for the long haul.

Anthony Davis Praises Lakers' Passing In Win Over Mavericks

As of right now, the Los Angeles Lakers (30-26) are ranked ninth in the Western Conference. From what we have seen thus far, it appears like LeBron James and Anthony Davis require additional support in order to develop into genuine contenders. Even if Davis is putting up 24.9 points and 12.2 rebounds per game and James is averaging 24.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 7.8 assists per game thus far, it is not enough for a club that is ranked 13th in offense and 18th in defense.

There’s a lot of uncertainty about the future after this season. James wants to play with his son Bronny, who is turning 40 this year, so unless the Lakers make an unexpected draft pick of him, The King may be heading somewhere. The other players on the team, such D’Angelo Russell and Austin Reaves, who have been the subject of trade speculations the whole season, are also in intriguing situations. The contract status for each Lakers player in 2024 is listed here.

Contract Status: Under Contract Through 2026–2027, with a player option for $66,821,676 in 2027–2028

Not much can be said about Anthony Davis this season, despite the criticism he received the previous year. Currently averaging 24.9 points, 12.2 rebounds, 1.1 steals, 2.5 blocks, and 2.5 rebounds per game, the big man appears headed for his sixth All-Star selection. The big man can dominate any game if he sets his mind to it, leads the NBA in rebounds, and is a strong candidate for Defensive Player of the Year.

Davis, who is thirty, is also nearing the end of his playing career, and the Lakers cannot afford to give him up. Without a doubt, the big man has a monster contract that runs through the 2026–2027 season.
