The Associated Press said on Wednesday that Andruw Jones’ wife filed for divorce around a week after he was taken into custody and accused of violence on Christmas morning.
Based on a lawsuit the AP received, Nicole Jones is requesting primary and joint legal custody of the couple’s 9-year-old son, which was filed in a suburban Atlanta court on Monday. The pair has been wed for a decade.
According to a police report that the AP saw, Nicole Jones claimed that on December 25, during an early-morning argument, Andruw Jones told her he wanted to murder her and grabbed her around the neck. He was detained for seven hours before being released on a $2,400 bond.
Andruw Jones, an outfielder of 35 years old, agreed to a one-year contract worth $3.5 million this offseason to play in the Pacific League with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Japan. Having played with the Yankees in the previous season, he has 17 Major League seasons under his belt, 12 of which were with the Braves. Ten Gold Glove Awards were hiss.
