Austin Price of VolQuest reported on Monday afternoon that the Tennessee Volunteers are planning to add veteran defensive assistant coach William Inge to their staff as the linebackers coach. A little while later, Adam Rittenberg of ESPN corroborated the report.

Inge takes over for former Tennessee linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary, who departed on February 15 to take a similar post on the newly redesigned coaching staff of the Michigan Wolverines.

Inge has a wealth of experience in collegiate football, having played defensive end for the Iowa Hawkeyes and coming close to joining the Tennessee Titans in 1997. His background will complement Rodney Garner’s for the Vols’ front seven. The ironic thing is that Tennessee’s last victory before Inge was hired was against Inge’s former team, the Iowa Hawkeyes.

According to reports, Inge joined DeBoer’s staff at Alabama on February 5th, taking on the roles of special teams coach and linebackers coach. However, it appears that the two are finally going their own ways as Inge apparently heads to Rocky Top.
