Police reported on Wednesday that Steve McNair was shot and killed in his sleep last weekend by his 20-year-old girlfriend, who was upset over growing money troubles and her suspicion that the former NFL quarterback was seeing someone else.
Ronal Serpas, the chief of Nashville police, stated that Sahel Kazemi “was spinning out of control” when she shot McNair four times while he slept on a sofa early on Saturday. She then turned the gun on herself. Friendship interviews disclosed that Kazemi was paying for two automobiles, her rent was doubled, and she suspected married McNair of having an extramarital affair with a different young lady.
Kazemi told a friend on Friday that “My life is a ball of (expletive) and I should end it,” Serpas said.
Police earlier had labeled McNair’s death a homicide, but they waited for further tests and the revelations about Kazemi’s personal problems before concluding that she pulled the trigger of a 9mm semiautomatic pistol in a condominium that the retired quarterback rented with a friend.
After spending the majority of his 13-year NFL career as a Tennessee Titan, McNair met Kazemi six months prior at a restaurant where his family frequently dined and she worked as a waitress. Although Kazemi appeared content and ready to start a family with McNair, something went awry.
Serpas stated, “We do know that during the last five to seven days of her life, she was clearly sending a message that things were going bad quickly,” even though there was no proof Kazemi disclosed her plans to hurt McNair to anyone.
According to Serpas, the police discovered that Kazemi had lately learned about another young woman that she thought McNair was romantically involved with. Although she didn’t confront her, Kazemi had even followed the woman home.
Serpas stated that since there were no defensive wounds, authorities think the 36-year-old McNair was asleep when he was killed. Kazemi wound up shooting McNair twice in the chest after shooting him once more in the head. She then appears to have shot herself.
Kazemi sat across from him and “tried to stage it so she would fall in his lap,” according to Serpas, before she shot herself. Although Kazemi did, her corpse tumbled to the ground, landing at McNair’s feet. She felt beneath her to find the gun.
