Minutes before Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET deadline, the New York Giants reached an agreement on a four-year, $160 million contract with their franchise quarterback, Daniel Jones, so beating the franchise tag deadline. Jones was supposed to receive the franchise tag and $35 million in incentives if a deal wasn’t completed by the deadline.

According to ESPN, Jones would receive $82 million in guaranteed money for the first two years of the agreement. The cap hit for 2023 is approximately $19 million, as reported by Ian Rapoport. With a guaranteed salary of $82 million, Jones is the eighth highest paid quarterback in the NFL, although his average yearly pay of $40 million ties him for seventh place.

“I told Giants.com after the season that I love this place,” Jones remarked. “I want to stay here since I’ve truly enjoyed my time here. I hold this organization, the Tisches, the Maras, my coaches, and my teammates in the highest regard. I’m glad we were able to reach a consensus.”

The New York Giants placed the franchise tag on Saquon Barkley, guaranteeing the running back $10.091 million in 2023, after they were able to reach an agreement with Jones. As a result, the Giants now have until July 17 to negotiate a long-term contract with Barkley.

Jones received this deal after a stellar career year. In addition to having the lowest interception percentage (1.1%) in the NFL the previous season, Jones also set career highs for passing yards (3,205), completion percentage (67.2%), and passer rating (92.5). In addition, he set career highs with 708 running yards and 7 touchdowns.
