At a rally in Kansas City on Wednesday, a third person was taken into custody to be questioned, according to Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves. One person lost their life and over twenty others were shot and injured.
“One deceased person has been confirmed,” she stated, adding that investigators are still trying to determine the exact number of victims.
Reporters were informed by Graves that “we have three people that are detained for investigation.”
There were an estimated one million spectators in downtown Kansas City on Wednesday to celebrate their team’s consecutive triumph. The incident occurred just a short distance from the site of the team’s victory rally, which was attended by thousands of supporters following the parade.
Since school districts in the Kansas City metro area had postponed classes to allow students to attend the celebration, several of the people in the throng were children.
The shooting is simply the most recent example of how gun violence has disturbed American society in previously safe areas. This one was at a large-scale sporting event. Others have visited hospitals, college campuses, home parties, supermarkets, churches, schools, and outlet malls. Two persons were shot in June 2023 as spectators left an NBA victory celebration for the Denver Nuggets.
According to hospital spokesman Keith King, four wounded and eight injured persons were transported to University Health Truman Medical Center on Wednesday.
