GOOD NEWS : Jalen Brunson Didn’t Foul Aaron ….
The New York Knicks and Houston Rockets game on Monday ended with a mistake, which the NBA has acknowledged.
According to Ian Begley of SNY, the NBA said in its Last Two Minute report that Knicks guard Jalen Brunson legitimately fought Rockets guard Aaron Holiday’s late three-point shot, which was ruled a foul and resulted in a contentious 105-103 loss for New York.
What should have been a classic game turned into a highly entertaining one due to the call. With 8.1 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Brunson tied the score at 103 with four straight points, but with 0.1 seconds left, he was called for a foul on Holiday. Holiday purposefully missed the second free shot after making the first two.
The NBA acknowledged that a mistake had been made, and Ed Malloy, the crew chief for the game, added that the call had been made incorrectly and that Brunson’s contact had been coincidental.
“After seeing it during postgame review, the offensive player was able to return to a normal playing position on the floor,” Malloy stated. “The contact which occurred after the release of the ball therefore is incidental and marginal to the shot attempt and should not have been called.”
For his part, Brunson refused to criticize the officials for their mistake. When reporters asked him three different questions about the call, he responded each time by saying, “Great call. Next question.”
The Knicks’ record dropped to 33-21 after they suffered their third straight defeat. Important players for New York have been out with injuries, including swingman OG Anunoby (elbow) and star forward Julius Randle (shoulder).
In their last game before the All-Star break, the Knicks will try to get back on track when they play the Orlando Magic on Wednesday.
