REPORT: There is trouble for Tennessee’s new quarterback.

Nico Iamaleava - Tennessee Volunteers Quarterback - ESPN

The Tennessee Volunteer football program has been hit with sanctions from the NCAA for more than 200 infractions during the recruiting process, and these penalties are not even a year old.

As to the reports by Pat Forde of SI.com, the NCAA has initiated a fresh probe into the Volunteers, which focuses on Name, Image, and Likeness. This could result in additional fines for the team.

According to Forde’s investigation, the NCAA turned down a request for comment on the matter, and aside from the connection to NIL, the alleged infractions remain incredibly ambiguous. With their current starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava, a former five-star quarterback who reportedly inked a deal that may pay him up to $8 million over his stay at Tennessee, Tennessee has struck perhaps the most notable NIL agreement to date. The NCAA is reportedly looking into the school for allegedly taking a private jet out of I,amaleava according to the New York Times.

The use of a private plane by a purported donor collective to transport a high-profile recruit, who is currently the team’s starting quarterback, to campus while the university was courting him, is one area of focus for the investigation. It would be against N.C.A.A. guidelines for the quarterback, Nico Iamaleava, to have the booster organization pay for the trip. The investigation follows Tennessee’s sanctions from the N.C.A.A. for several recruiting infractions and indicates the organization’s growing worry over the amount and impact of money that donor collectives are putting into collegiate athletics.”
