The Tennessee Volunteers are preparing for a crucial final game of their 2024 campaign—the Citrus Bowl against the Iowa Hawkeyes. Without their starting quarterback, the Vols will try to win a game against a ranked team, a feat they haven’t accomplished yet this season. Although Joe Milton III will be with the team this week in Orlando, Florida, he has chosen not to play in the Citrus Bowl in favor of concentrating on his NFL Draft preparation.

“You want to start the game fast so you can understand the flow and tempo,” said Milton, reflecting on his run to start the game and how it affected the rest of the afternoon. Since coach [Josh Heupel] arrived, that has been the standard.” All things considered, he completed 58% of his passes for 209 yards and two touchdowns. With 89 yards on the day, including the game-winning touchdown, he was also a dangerous player on the ground.

Milton was very complimentary about the victory in the postgame. “We went back, practiced, and watched the film to understand what we were doing as an offense and how we can help it and stay on the same page.” He should feel more confident after this win going into next Saturday’s tilt against South Carolina. The season will soon heat up as the Vols approach the toughest part of their SEC schedule. Against the Roadrunners, Milton focused more on his “A” game, which will be necessary moving forward. On Saturday, September 30th, Milton and Tennessee will return to action against the Gamecocks at 7:30 p.m. ET.
