Breaking News: Mike Sullivan, the quarterback coach for the Steelers, is back with…

Ian Rapoport reports that negotiations between Kliff Kingsbury and the Las Vegas Raiders went down, leading to Kingsbury’s dismissal as the team’s offensive coordinator. Kingsbury may now become the Commanders’ offensive coordinator, but Mike Sullivan, the play-caller and coach of the Steelers’ quarterbacks, now has a chance to take the position after interviewing in Las Vegas.

Jeremy Fowler provided more support for his reporting, stating that Eric Bieniemy and Pep Hamilton from Washington interviewed for the position in addition to Sullivan, suggesting that this may be the path they ultimately choose.

Since 2021, Sullivan has served as the quarterbacks coach for the Steelers. Following the dismissal of offensive coordinator Matt Canada, Sullivan was elevated during the season to assume the role of primary playcaller for the squad.

Head coach of the Steelers Mike Tomlin stated, “I’m looking at outside candidates and lining up the pecking order there.” Regarding what they did for us in the final moments, I am grateful for their efforts. But at this point, I’m searching for outside candidates.

If Sullivan is unsuccessful in his two interviews for open OC posts, it’s unclear what went wrong. The Steelers have the option to reinstate him as the quarterbacks coach or come to an amicable agreement to part ways in order to prevent tension between Sullivan and Arthur Smith, his new boss.

The assumption is that Smith will want to add at least a few members of his own staff, but the only opening on the offensive side of the ball this offseason has been analyst Glenn Thomas’s departure.
