The timing of having another Super Bowl champion under center may be ideal for the Steelers.
The Steelers, the division foe of the Ravens, seem to be looking to upgrade at quarterback after Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement following the 2021 season. The team has struggled with uneven play at the position.
And now would be a good time to replace him with another Super Bowl victor.
Russell Wilson and the Broncos seem to be having a very public and unpleasant split, which may help Wilson find a new home by 2024 and beyond. Pittsburgh is among the teams that the 12-year veteran’s arrows are pointing toward.
During a recent episode of ESPN Get Up, former Colts coach Jeff Saturday offered his “best fit” for Wilson as the Steelers.
The ideal candidate for Arthur Smith would be Russell Wilson. Saturday stated, “He wants to play under center. He’s looking for play-action. He is an accomplished quarterback in every way. I understand the whole zone read concept, but no matter what he does, Arthur Smith can still lead to runs.
As competent as anyone could be… Additionally, there is a veteran player there who has won numerous games. I am aware of his detractors; the man wins an absurd number of games.
This season, the Ravens have suffered two losses to the Steelers, both by identical scores of 17-10. During the first instance, in Week 5, Baltimore committed multiple errors that let Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett to find George Pickens for a 41-yard touchdown throw in the closing moments of the game
For the postseason, the Ravens rested the majority of their starters in Week 18, including quarterback Lamar Jackson, a prime candidate for MVP. Mason Rudolph, the starting quarterback for the Steelers, completed 18 of 20 passes for 152 yards and one touchdown.
The Steelers quarterbacks’ respective stat lines are adequate, but Pittsburgh has struggled with uneven play under center all season. Currently ranked as the No. 20 overall pick in 2022, Pitt’s hometown kid has not yet demonstrated the consistency the club is looking for, hence the Kenny Pickett experiment is headed toward disaster.
