Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN claims that the Golden State Warriors’ four-team trade “has been completed.”

The Atlanta Hawks, Portland Trail Blazers, and Detroit Pistons were the four teams that the Golden State Warriors traded with on Thursday.

The NBA Champion Gary Payton II to the Warriors and the 2020 second-overall selection James Wiseman to the Pistons were the two noteworthy aspects of the trade.
However, Payton II failed his physical with the Warriors, according to reports from Shams Charania and Anthony Slater of The Athletic on Friday night.

Thursday night, via Charania: “Just in: Sources tell me and @anthonyVslater that Gary Payton II’s failed physical examination has put the Golden State-Portland-Detroit-Atlanta four-team deal in significant jeopardy. After a Warriors checkup, Payton may be out for up to three months due to a core muscle injury.”

Even though there’s a chance the move won’t go through, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski says that the trade is done as of Sunday night.

According to Wojnarowski: “Sources tell ESPN that the four-team transaction involving Golden State, Portland, Atlanta, and Detroit is complete. On Monday, players are free to begin playing for new teams.”

Playing with the Warriors the previous season, Payton II averaged 7.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game to help them win the championship.

They also let Wiseman go, and since the Pistons are rebuilding, he will now be able to play more often in a new setting.

The 21-year-old has a lot of potential, but it can be difficult for a young player to grow up on a squad that has won a championship four of the previous eight seasons.
