For the foreseeable future, the Pittsburgh Steelers will be without their starting signal-caller.

Quarterback Kenny Pickett had surgery to treat a high ankle sprain, according to head coach Mike Tomlin. He won’t be present for the New England Patriots game on Thursday night.

Pickett is not anticipated to be placed on injured reserve, said Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. Additionally, he claims it indicates the team thinks he will return inside the allotted four weeks.

Mitchell Trubisky, a seasoned quarterback and backup, would probably start in Pickett’s place. When Trubisky entered the game on Sunday against Arizona, he completed 11 of 17 throws to Diontae Johnson for 117 yards and a touchdown.

On Thursday, Pittsburgh will meet the 2-10 New England Patriots.
