With three straight losses, the Pittsburgh Steelers are headed in the wrong direction, but head coach Mike Tomlin’s position does not appear to be in danger.

“There is a lot of outside noise. “Inside, the Pittsburgh Steelers are doing business as usual,” Mike Florio stated during the pregame broadcast on NBC’s Football Night in America on Saturday. “They have absolutely no desire to switch heads coaches. In fact, they would like to extend his contract, which is set to expire after the 2024 season.”

Maintaining Tomlin would be just that—routine business.

After all, Chuck Noll, Bill Cowher, and Jim Tomlin are the three head coaches the Steelers have had since the 1969 campaign. Tomlin is in his 17th season as head coach heading into the 2023 campaign, and he has never ended with a losing record.

His overall record with 10 postseason appearances is 170-100-2.

In their second season, Pittsburgh won the Super Bowl, and in their fourth, they made it to the Final Four.

Given that the upcoming season will be his last under his current contract, the intention to grant him a contract extension is noteworthy. In the event that there is no renewal, he might be viewed as a lame duck going into the 2024 campaign, which might affect his level of involvement in future personnel decisions.

According to Florio, “Tomlin is directly involved in roster planning for 2024 and 2025.”

He appears to be unconcerned about his employment situation, but he is concerned about the possibility that his run of seasons with a.500 record or better may stop.

when a 7-4 start, Pittsburgh appeared to be well on its way to a successful season. However, when quarterback Kenny Pickett was injured, the team has lost three straight games. It is currently one game behind the Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans, and Buffalo Bills in the hunt for wild-card berths and ranked tenth in the AFC standings.

In their meeting with the Bengals on Saturday, the Steelers have a chance to make things right, but Mason Rudolph will start at quarterback.

If Rudolph performs better than anticipated, Tomlin may continue his run of strong seasons.
