Nottingham Forest have reportedly written to PGMOL chief refereeing officer Howard Webb following Ivan Toney’s controversial goal in Brentford’s 3-2 Premier League win over the Reds on Saturday.

The striker marked his return to action after an eight-month suspension with a free-kick goal at the Gtech Community Stadium. Toney’s goal cancelled out Danilo’s early opener before Brentford went on to win 3-2.

Toney was observed repositioning the ball to the right so that he could have a good view of Forest’s goal across the wall. The trick was successful because Matt Turner was rendered helpless when the England international put the ball in the back of the net.

Nuno Espirito Santo, the manager of Forest, expressed his displeasure at Toney’s antics by requesting that VAR review the goal. “It was ball displacement,” he declared. The law is unambiguous: each objective and every circumstance that leads to an objective must be examined. I am not sure if they verified, but it appears to be ball displacement.

It shocked me that the players didn’t voice any complaints either. Since it shifts the wall’s position and turns it into a soft ball, I believe we need to act a little more responsibly in that circumstance. Everyone in the spectators believes that the wall’s placement is incorrect, but there was a noticeable ball displacement that was measured in yards rather than just inches.

Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports reports that the Reds have now written to Webb to ask for an explanation of why the striker was permitted to transfer the ball. It’s been reported that Forest is seeking clarification on whether VAR could have stepped in and if Toney had infringed any regulations.
