The Philadelphia Eagles, who have lost four of their past five games, have recently been under fire for going into a late-season slump.

A.J. Brown, the team’s star receiver, has come under fire for refusing to speak to the media following Philadelphia’s last two games, which has led some to doubt his leadership skills as one of the team’s faces. Head coach Nick Sirriani and quarterback Jalen Hurts have also been easy targets for a lot of finger-pointing and blame-assigning amid the disappointing stretch.

But offensive lineman Jordan Mailata believes that’s not at all the case. In a recent interview with SportsRadio 94WIP, Mailata said that Brown has been a driving force behind the team’s growth as a unit in the face of recent hardship.

A.J. has performed exceptionally well, according to Mailata. “We had a full team escape room thing going on a few days before the game, and most of the men showed up just to establish camaraderie. He’s been excellent in the background. You guys don’t know A.J. as well as we do, despite all of this rhetoric about him not being a leader.

During the first eight weeks of the season, Brown was among the hottest receivers in the NFL, going on a six-game winning streak in which he had five touchdowns, six receptions, and 125 receiving yards.

However, throughout Philly’s current losing streak, he has only managed one 100-yard game and zero touchdowns. Six weeks ago, in a 37-34 overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills, he scored his last touchdown.

Despite the negative reaction to his decision to avoid engaging with the media following games, Brown explained that he had a valid explanation.

“I didn’t want to be negative, which is why I didn’t speak to the media after [the Cardinals loss],” Brown stated, as reported by Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94WIP. “I had already adopted the perspective that we were going through a difficult moment, and as a result.I’m not going to add one more negative to the list so that [reporters] can write even more bad things.
