CBS PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia Eagles punter Braden Mann was among many mentors who helped teen boys paint shoes as part of a fundraising for their summer trip to Africa on Tuesday.

“My shoe design is basically for my dad,” Ibrahim Smith, 13, explained.

To memorialize his father, the adolescent used a pair of Nike Air Force 1 shoes as a blank canvas and spelled out his and his siblings’ names.

“Mekalya, Mekai, Efrom, Azhir, Nassir, Ibrahim, and Talib, with the words ‘MEAN IT.'” So that’s what I was going to put on the shoe,” Smith explained.

He was one among approximately 20 adolescent males who participated in the KB Foundation Leadership Education Abroad Program at the Guerin Recreation Center to paint sneakers donated by Lapstone + Hammer.PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The city of Philadelphia

But this was more than just an art endeavor. Some of the students want to auction off their shoes to help fund their journey to Africa.

“This is a completely free opportunity for the young people in our KB Foundation,” said founder Kirk Berry.

The auction makes the trip as easy as possible for these lads, he says.

“Any dollars raised for our LEAP program are for the youth to be able to get their passports, their visas, their vaccination shots, if needed,” Berry went on to say.

Some of the lads at the event had previously made the journey in August 2023. Braden Mann of the Philadelphia Eagles learned all about it while designing his own sneaker at the event through the team’s sponsorship. My Cleats, My Cause
