Legendary business magnate worth $204 billion reportedly  bought one of NBA’s most beloved and successful teams

On the latest episode of his eponymous podcast, sportswriter and podcaster Bill Simmons thinks the Amazon founder could make an audacious bid to purchase one of the NBA’s most historic franchises.

The league wants $6 billion for the team,” Simmons said.

“They don’t own the arena, it’s a crazy price but they’re probably going to get it.

They want the $6 billion because they want expansion teams in Seattle and Las Vegas, and they want $6 billion apiece for the two franchise for expansion. That would mean a check for $400 million to every NBA owner, all 30.

“In the last few days there’s been some I think legitimate buzz about Jeff Bezos buying the Celtics, and I think it’s real. I think he’s gonna be one of the suitors.

“Which got me thinking, what does he want? It’s one of the crown jewel franchises – that’s why you get it.”

American business magnate Bezos is the former president and CEO of Amazon and is the second wealthiest man on the planet.

The man who was born in Albuquerque and raised in Houston and Miami before founding the world’s largest e-commerce company is worth a reported $204.3 billion, according to Forbes.

“Oh yeah that core is gonna be together for a long time if Bezos buys the team,” posted one fan.

“We signing everyone to a max deal now,” joked another.

The news comes after the C’s current owners — the Grousbeck family — decided to sell their majority stake in the franchise following its record 18th world championship.

The Grousbecks are the leaders of the Boston Basketball Partners group, a consortium of investors who acquired the Celtics for $360 million back in 2002 – at the time the highest price paid for an NBA team.
