The New York Yankees’ four-game run of fixtures against the Toronto Blue Jays wasn’t with controversy, with coach Aaron Boone appearing to unleash a foul-mouthed rant on a rival coach
New York Yankees coach Aaron Boone appeared to blast Toronto Blue Jays pitching coach Pete Walker in a foul-mouthed rant.
The Yankees ended their ill-tempered series against the Blue Jays with a 4-2 win in the final game, securing three wins while losing just once over the four games. But the series was not without controversy and featured a heated exchange between the two benches at Rogers Centre.
Following the 4-2 victory, Boone says Walker was yelling at one of the Yankees’ coaches, third base coach Luis Rojas. “Oh, I don’t know. He was yelling at Luis again,” Boone said. “I’m glad we’re leaving. I was trying to stay out of [interacting with their] dugout and I violated my own rules to our guys, so I apologise for that.”
The Yankees-Blue Jays clashes saw a number of interesting events during the four-game series. In the first game, Aaron Judge was caught peeking into his own dugout during an at-bat by the Blue Jays broadcast team. The insinuation was the Judge was stealing signs, but he responded with an explanation after the game and denied that was the case.
And in game two, a Yankees pitcher was ejected for violating the league’s new policies on grip-enhancing substances. right-hander Domingo German’s hands were deemed to be too sticky, so he was ejected and later slapped with a ten-game suspension by the MLB.
Luckily for the Yankees and the Blue Jays, the two teams don’t have to see each other until September. Yankees star says it starts to get tedious when you play the same team over and over again. “When you continually play a team over and over and over again, it starts to get a little bit annoying,” he said. “Now that we don’t see them for a while, it’s nice. You can play other teams.”
Despite the three wins over the Blue Jays, the Yankees still find themselves fourth in the AL East – one position behind their fierce rivals. The Tampa Bay Rays are leading the division with an impressive 32-13 record.
Up next for the Yankees is a three-game series with the Cincinnati Reds, with games set for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this week. As for the Blue Jays, they move on to a three-game series with the Orioles.
The last time the New York Yankees won the World Series was in 2009. That title win came against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
