LehighValleyLive.com reported that on Thursday, while attempting to cross a street in Lower Mount Bethel Township, Pennsylvania, the father of Detroit Lions linebacker Steve Longa was struck and killed by a car.

At 10:18 a.m., Etienne Longa, 55, was struck by a Ford Escape when he was standing close to the cab of a stationary truck tractor. The report declared his death to be an accident.

Steve Longa’s status for the Lions’ game against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday is uncertain after he did not train with the team on Friday.

Before coming to the US in 2002, Etienne Longa was a prosperous businessman and professional soccer player in his home Cameroon.

Before relocating to New Jersey five years later with the arrival of his family, including Steve, he had made his home in Detroit.
