For the Las Vegas Raiders, the next offseason offers an interesting situation, especially in regards to their quarterback situation.
The Raiders have a ton of options to consider because there are so many skilled quarterbacks available via trades, free agency, and the NFL draft. A name that has been bandied about that fits the traditional Raiders mold is Washington star Michael Penix Jr.
Penix has a strong resume because of his outstanding performance from the previous season. He was a left-handed quarterback who set a new record for Washington and led the country in passing yards with an astounding 4,903 yards in 15 games. His domination was on display as he ranked third in college football with 36 touchdowns, about 400 yards ahead of the competition.
Penix’s play style, which is evocative of the late Al Davis, fits in nicely with the Raiders’ philosophy. Tre Tucker, Davante Adams, and Jakobi Meyers are among the Raiders’ talented wide receivers. He is a perfect fit for exploiting their skills since he has the arm strength and accuracy required to make deep throws.
Given that the Raiders already have Aidan O’Connell as a quarterback, it is possible that Penix and O’Connell will share a quarterback room with an experienced backup or unproven starter.
Even yet, the Las Vegas Raiders’ wealth of choices highlights the ambiguity surrounding their quarterback situation as they work through the summer.
