**GOOD NEWS: New Pickleball Facility To Open This Fall In Delaware County**

Pickleball enthusiasts, get ready to celebrate! Delaware County is about to become a major destination for fans of the fastest-growing sport in America. A brand-new, state-of-the-art pickleball facility is set to open its doors this fall, bringing excitement, community engagement, and athletic opportunity to the region.

This highly anticipated development represents more than just a place to play—it’s a testament to the sport’s booming popularity and the county’s commitment to expanding recreational opportunities for residents of all ages.

The new facility—tentatively named **Delco Pickleball Center**—will be located on a 5-acre site in the heart of Delaware County, offering easy access from major roads and public transportation. It will feature **16 indoor courts and 8 outdoor courts**, making it one of the largest pickleball complexes in the tri-state area.

“We’ve seen an incredible surge in interest in pickleball over the last few years,” says project lead and co-owner Mike Caruso. “From seniors looking for a low-impact way to stay active to competitive players training for tournaments, there’s a growing demand for high-quality playing space. Our facility is designed to meet that need.”

Caruso and his business partner, local entrepreneur Tanya Reynolds, began planning the facility in late 2022 after noticing the lack of dedicated pickleball spaces in the region. “It’s been a long time coming,” Reynolds adds. “We’re building more than just courts—we’re creating a hub for connection, wellness, and fun.”

The Delco Pickleball Center will offer far more than just court space. The indoor area will be climate-controlled and equipped with professional-grade lighting, locker rooms, a pro shop, and a cafe-style lounge where players can relax, refuel, and socialize.

The outdoor courts will feature night lighting for evening play and shaded viewing areas for spectators. The entire facility will be ADA-compliant and built with safety and comfort in mind.

For beginners, the center will offer **introductory classes**, **clinics**, and **private lessons** with certified instructors. More advanced players can participate in **league play**, **round robins**, and **sanctioned tournaments**, some of which will offer prize money and attract top players from the region.

“We want people of all skill levels to feel welcome,” says Head Coach and Program Director Stephanie Lin. “Whether you’ve never picked up a paddle or you’re training for nationals, there will be programs and events tailored just for you.”

The economic benefits of the new facility are also worth noting. Construction has already created dozens of local jobs, and once operational, the center is expected to employ 20–30 full- and part-time staff, including instructors, event coordinators, and maintenance workers.

Additionally, the influx of players and spectators is likely to have a positive ripple effect on surrounding businesses—restaurants, hotels, and retail stores near the facility are preparing for increased foot traffic.

Local leaders are excited about what the center means for the area. “This project aligns perfectly with our vision for a healthier, more active Delaware County,” says County Council member Rachel Lawson. “We’re thrilled to welcome a facility that promotes fitness, social connection, and economic growth.”

Pickleball, a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping pong, has exploded in popularity over the past five years. According to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association, over **13.6 million Americans** now play pickleball regularly—a number that has more than doubled since 2021.

Delaware County has seen its share of this boom, with recreation centers and local parks reporting record attendance for pickleball programs. But until now, there hasn’t been a dedicated year-round facility to meet the growing demand.

“The popularity has been incredible, but access has lagged behind,” says long-time player and Delco resident Jeff Miller. “I’ve driven as far as an hour to find indoor courts during the winter. This new center is going to be a game changer.”

The team behind Delco Pickleball Center is already thinking long term. In addition to regular programming, they plan to host **youth camps**, **adaptive pickleball programs** for players with disabilities, and even **corporate team-building events**.

They’re also in talks with local schools and senior centers to provide access and offer discounted rates for groups. “We believe strongly in the power of sport to bring people together,” Reynolds says. “This isn’t just a business—it’s a community asset.”

There are also discussions about becoming a **regional tournament host**, which could draw players from neighboring states and elevate Delaware County’s status on the national pickleball map.

“We want to become a hub not just for play, but for innovation in the sport,” Lin adds. “We’re exploring partnerships with sports science programs and paddle manufacturers to test equipment, track performance, and contribute to the evolution of pickleball at a national level.”

Construction is ahead of schedule, and the Delco Pickleball Center is slated to open its doors in **October 2025**. A grand opening weekend is being planned, complete with free open play, clinics, live music, giveaways, and guest appearances by professional pickleball players.

“We want the grand opening to feel like a celebration,” says Caruso. “This facility belongs to the community, and we’re inviting everyone to come and be part of it from day one.”

Until then, the team is sharing regular updates on social media and their official website, where interested players can pre-register for memberships, lessons, and events.

In an age when screen time dominates and meaningful social interaction can be hard to come by, the rise of pickleball has offered something refreshingly simple: a way to connect, move, and have fun. With the opening of the Delco Pickleball Center, Delaware County is embracing this movement in a big way.

Whether you’re a seasoned pro, a curious beginner, or just looking for a new way to stay active and meet people, this new facility promises to be a vibrant, welcoming place for all. So dust off your paddle—or pick one up for the first time—and get ready to join the fun this fall.

**See you on the court, Delco!**
