Kevin Savage Commits to Purdue Basketball: Boilermakers Add Elite 2025 Guard Prospect

Purdue basketball has landed a significant piece of its future with the commitment of four-star guard Kevin Savage, a rising star in the class of 2025. Savage, a 6-foot-3 dynamic playmaker from St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio, announced his commitment to the Boilermakers on Monday, choosing Purdue over programs like Ohio State, Michigan, and Illinois.

Savage becomes the cornerstone of Purdue’s 2025 recruiting class and is expected to bring elite scoring, playmaking, and defensive intensity to Matt Painter’s squad. Known for his ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor, he has quickly risen through the ranks as one of the Midwest’s top guard prospects.

Savage cited his relationship with Coach Matt Painter and Purdue’s player development program as major reasons behind his decision.

> “From day one, Coach Painter made me feel like I was part of the family,” Savage said in his announcement. “Purdue has a proven track record of developing guards and competing at the highest level. I want to be part of that legacy.”

Purdue’s recent success in the Big Ten and its deep tournament runs in recent years played a role in influencing Savage’s choice. The program’s blend of disciplined coaching and competitive culture resonated with him and his family during his multiple visits to West Lafayette.

Kevin Savage has been a standout on the high school and AAU circuits, averaging 22 points, 7 assists, and 4 rebounds per game during his junior season. His ability to create shots off the dribble, make advanced reads in pick-and-roll situations, and apply on-ball pressure defensively has made him one of the most well-rounded guards in the 2025 class.

On the EYBL circuit, Savage drew attention from scouts and coaches alike with his consistency and leadership, often putting together complete performances against top-tier national competition. He is currently ranked among the top 75 players in the country, according to most major recruiting services.

With Purdue expected to lose veteran backcourt leadership by the time Savage arrives, his presence will be crucial to maintaining the team’s offensive flow and perimeter defense. He is projected to slot in as either a lead guard or an off-ball scorer, depending on the development of other backcourt players.

His commitment boosts Purdue’s 2025 recruiting class ranking and sends a strong message to other top-tier prospects that the Boilermakers remain a destination for serious basketball talent.

> “Kevin Savage is a major pickup,” said recruiting analyst Eric Bossi. “He’s not just a scorer. He has a high IQ, plays under control, and brings a winning mentality. Purdue is getting a two-way guard who can run the show and lock down opponents.”

Savage is the first major commitment for Purdue’s 2025 class, but more are expected to follow. His early decision could serve as a catalyst for others to join, particularly big men or wings who are looking to team up with a guard who can distribute and take pressure off teammates.

The Boilermakers have had tremendous recent success developing backcourt stars like Jaden Ivey and Braden Smith. Savage’s game draws similarities to both — Ivey’s explosiveness and Smith’s control — making him a natural fit in Purdue’s system.

For Savage, the focus now turns toward finishing his high school career strong and preparing to lead Purdue into a new era of Big Ten competition.

> “I’m ready to get to work and represent Purdue the right way,” Savage said. “This is just the beginning.”

With his commitment, the Boilermakers continue to solidify their reputation as one of the premier programs in the country for developing high-level guards and competing on the national stage.
